Wild Kingdoms - Sandy Newell & Beth Shook

Sandy Newell and Beth Shook present Wild Kingdoms Sandy Newell’s watercolors use everyday objects, including bubble wrap, coffee filters, and lace, to create textures and patterns. Her unpredictable technique inspires her animal portraits. “Each animal has a soul, which I try to capture.” Newell began her career as a graphic designer in Chicago. Her paintings are currently represented by The Finer Arts Gallery in Cave Creek. Newell has a BFA in Graphic Design and Illustration from the University of Illinois. Beth Shook’s detailed drawings are allegorical personifications of wildlife. They come from a study of the Book of Proverbs, which uses a variety of literary forms, including comparison and personification. “I desire to tell a story drawn from relationships with people and informed by faith.” Shook’s art is part of the Sky Harbor art collection. She earned a BFA from the University of Texas at El Paso and an MFA in Ceramics from ASU in 1990.
