'Tis the Season: Holidays at MIM

About This Event

Ring in the holiday season with traditional music and performances from across the globe! All activities are happening Saturday and Sunday unless noted otherwise. Craft: Handbells 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Make your own handbell and play along with the day’s performances. Photo Booth 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Have your picture taken in our hands-free photo booth! Digitally share your pictures and tag us with #MIMphx for a chance to be featured on our social media. Curator Talk: Holiday Mummers 9:45-10:15 a.m. Learn about holiday mumming traditions—with costumes, music, dance, and theater—around the world and in MIM’s galleries from education curator Mike Silvers. Pop-Up Performance: Dickens Carolers 10:15–11:15 a.m. Join the Dickens Carolers for a stroll along El Río and listen as they sing spirited seasonal carols. Performance: Mariachi Alma de Mi Pueblo 11:30 a.m.–noon Listen to holiday classics from an award-winning mariachi group! Orchestrion: Holiday Playlist Noon and 3:00 p.m. Enjoy unique versions of familiar holiday tunes as played by MIM’s largest instrument, the orchestrion! Youth-led Mini-Tours 12:15 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. Follow Junior Museum Guides on a short, informative tour of MIM’s galleries with a special focus on holiday celebrations from around the world. Music-Making Workshop 12:15 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. Join Junior Museum Guides for a fun, family-friendly musical activity that teaches guests to play holiday classics on the handbells! Performance: Rural Street Klezmer 1:30–2:00 p.m., Saturday Get in the spirit for Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, with a klezmer performance. Performance: The Hot Beignets 1:30–2:00 p.m., Sunday Experience a New Orleans–style holiday with a lively performance by the Hot Beignets. Performance: Arizona School for the Arts 2:30–3:00 p.m., Saturday Enjoy holiday chamber music with Arizona School for the Arts’ World Guitar Ensemble. Part of the Sweetwater Student Showcase Series, supported by Sweetwater. Performance: Kwanzaa Storytelling 2:30–3:00 p.m. Join storyteller and musician Súle Greg Wilson in this participatory exploration of Kwanzaa traditions. Performance: Las Palomas del Norte Handbell Ensemble 3:30–4:00 p.m. Ring in the holidays with a festive handbell performance. Weekend Extras Available for Purchase Lunch at Café Allegro Offered daily 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Enjoy a menu of delicious global cuisine with fresh entrées, salads, soups, and grill items showcasing local produce and flavors from around the world. Shop the Museum Store The Museum Store has great gifts for the holidays, including global crafts and musical instruments, stocking stuffers, and festive holiday décor and games. Members save 10% on most items in the Museum Store and online. Every purchase benefits MIM and its programs. Tickets for Stradivarius and the Golden Age of Violins and Guitars are $7 with paid museum admission or $10 special exhibition only for ages 20 and up, $4 for ages 4–19, and free for ages 3 and under.
