Sounds of Ascent - Classic Concert Series

A COLLABORATIVE CONCERT WITH THE TUCSON ARIZONA BOYS CHORUS Experience the timeless beauty of choral music as the Phoenix Boys Choir presents an unforgettable concert of choral masterpieces at our Classics Concert Series: Sounds of Ascent. We are thrilled to be joined on this program by members of the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Julian Ackerley, as they celebrate their remarkable 85th season. The concert will include music from a variety of composers, from Vivaldi and Schumann to Purcell and Rutter. Concertgoers will also be the first to experience the world premiere of Foreign Lands by Polish composer Zuzanna Koziej, third prize winner of our 2023 New Works Rising Choral Composition Competition. The centerpiece of this concert series is the combined PBC and TABC performance of two of George Frideric Handle's magnificent Coronation Anthems. The Anthems were originally commissioned for the 1727 coronation of England's King George II and Queen Caroline, and at least one of them has been sung at the coronation of every British monarch since then. This collaborative performance, accompanied by organ, strings, oboe, trumpet, and timpani, celebrates the enduring importance of Handel's work while featuring two of Arizona's oldest and most beloved performing arts organizations. ​ Come and hear the angelic voices of our choristers as they lift their hearts in song, offering a truly unforgettable experience for all who attend.
