Risi’s work is primarily stoneware: ceramic made using selected clays which are fired at high temperatures. She completes her ceramic sculptures with other materials such as steel and glass. The centerpiece of this exhibition is the recent series of wall-mounted works of the title. These large round shields variously incorporate color, pattern, and mixed materials to create bold and personal emblems, expressing both “humor and sadness. Life can be joyous and tragic at the same time,” writes the artist. Susan Risi holds an MFA from SUNY New Paltz and has exhibited her prize-winning work in New York and Arizona. The public is invited to experience this unique collection of original art and to meet the artist, who will be present during all gallery hours.
