Outsourced by Susan Allred

Eye Lounge artist Susan Allred presents Outsourced, a solo exhibition at Modified Arts that brings together fiber works from The Cocoon Index, her social practice project about emotional labor, alongside works drawn from her own experience. Allred’s fiber practice uses sculptural form to consider emotional labor as a gendered cultural expectation: the often-unseen work of caring, remembering, anticipating needs, and managing other people's feelings. The exhibition includes 90 makers and over 100 maker cocoons created in workshops, where participants wrapped and embroidered objects connected to care, memory, and emotional weight. Visitors will be able to view the works in the gallery and use QR codes to access the stories shared by the makers. Outsourced invites reflection on what we carry, protect, release, and transform.
