Makerspace: Special Edition – Scrapbooking & Collage

Makers, crafters, and lovers of hands-on experiences—this one’s for you! Join Heard Museum staff and guest artists for Makerspace: Special Edition, featuring open-studio, drop-in workshops inspired by the themes, materials and artwork in Meryl McMaster: Bloodline. This month’s Makerspace focuses on scrapbooking and collage, facilitated by Amber McCrary (Diné) of Abalone Mountain Press. After exploring the Meryl McMaster: Bloodline exhibition, bring your existing project or an idea for something new and work alongside fellow makers. We’ll provide basic materials to help your creativity flourish! This program is included with regular admission and FREE for Heard Museum Members. Light refreshments will be served. Recommended for ages 12 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Got questions? Contact us at learning@heard.org. Artist Bio: Amber McCrary is Diné poet and zinester. She is Red House Clan born to Mexican people. Originally from Shonto, Arizona, and raised in Flagstaff, Arizona. She received her MFA in creative writing with an emphasis in poetry at Mills College. McCrary is also the owner and founder of Abalone Mountain Press, a press dedicated to publishing Indigenous voices. She is a board member of the Northern Arizona Book Festival. She is the AZ Humanities 2022 Rising Star of the Year and a Native Arts and Cultures Foundation LIFT awardee. Her debut poetry collection, Blue Corn Tongue: Poems in the Mouth of a Desert will be released Spring 2025 from University of Arizona Press. www.ambermccrary.com
