Ground Floor Artists invites you to experience "Inspired by Picasso," an electrifying new exhibit that pays tribute to the life, style, and themes of the legendary Spanish artist, Pablo Picasso. From the evocative depths of his Blue Period to the revolutionary spirit of Cubism, this exhibit captures the essence of Picasso’s boundless influence while showcasing fresh and contemporary interpretations from talented artists across the region. The exhibit, which runs from October 3rd to November 2nd, features works in a variety of mediums, each reimagining the bold creativity of Picasso's artistry. With a diverse lineup of artists exploring the full range of inspiration—from literal interpretations to thematic explorations of Picasso’s impact—visitors are invited to immerse themselves in a world of color, abstraction, and emotional depth. Join us for the Opening Reception on October 11th from 5-7 PM. Mingle with the featured artists and enjoy an exclusive first look at the incredible artworks on display.

I was born and raised in Arizona as the youngest of 5 children. I graduated from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 2016 with a BFA in Illustration with a minor in Printmaking and Book Arts, then moved back home to Arizona. As a transgender / non-binary individual, my artwork depicts my unique view of the world. I focus a lot on the human condition, using funky, surreal, and colorful imagery to express those thoughts and feelings. Living in Arizona, the beautiful desert is seen quite a bit in my work, along with portraiture, the dark yet colorful, psychedelic themes, and my love for animals. My work varies in medium primarily from acrylic to watercolor, pen and ink, to book binding and various printmaking techniques.

I was raised in Colorado, surrounded by the Rocky Mountains with the most breathtaking scenery and changing seasons. Since I was little, I've been inspired by the beauty of nature and the ever changing art in the sky - sunsets, clouds, storms, and the stars. My inspiration not only comes from the beauty of our world, but from emotions and memories as well. Creating art allows me a way to express my feelings on canvas for the world to interpret in their own way, sparking their own emotions, and igniting the viewer's imagination to see the beauty in their own individual ways. I remember seeing Monet's 'Water Lilies' in a museum for the first time, and I still recall the feelings I had when looking at such an iconic, breathtaking piece with awe and admiration. Bela Fidel

Bela Fidel's first passion is creating. She is a mixed media artist working in Scottsdale, AZ. Bela’s body of work is informed by her experiences of having lived in three different countries and her exposure to their culture and outlook on life. This can be felt in the rich layering and texturing of her abstract work in oils, encaustics and mixed media. Bela’s other passion is animals, both domestic and wild. Her love and compassion for all sentient creatures led her to create a series in oils, Endangered, Threatened and Exploited Species, with an aim to raise people’s awareness about the plight of these animals. Bela has been showing her work for many decades at a variety of art venues, both in Los Angeles and in Arizona. Throughout the years she has been the recipient of prizes, commendations and media publicity. Bela strives to continue to distill her truest personal expression through constant exploration, venturing into new territories while staying true to her fidelity to elegant aesthetics.

Harold Lohner

Harold Lohner is an artist and font designer. He is Professor Emeritus of Art at Russell Sage College and holds an MFA in printmaking from the University at Albany. Harold has been making and exhibiting his prints and other artworks regionally and nationally for over 30 years, including solo exhibitions at the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum, Mesa, AZ, and Five15Arts@Chartreuse, Phoenix. He is also the proprietor of Harold’s Fonts, a digital type foundry. Harold lives in Phoenix with his husband, Al Martino.

Chris Newpher

Chris brings art and storytelling together through compelling abstract oil paintings that pull together shape, flow, shadows, depth, and design. Chris grew up in the DC area and spent years as a bike messenger. He then moved to Boston, MA and Oakland CA pursuing a career in restaurant management before settling down in Fort Collins, CO following his passion and earning a BFA in Fine Arts from Colorado State University in 2015. Chris relocated to Phoenix, AZ in 2016 to pursue a career in painting. HIs work tells stories that weave together urban influences along with organic elements into his unique abstract style. Using small brushes to create soft fluid shapes that swirl and churn with a vibrant pallet of colors each painting creates a unique story for the viewer to translate.
