Fields of Light, Deserts of Color: Sarah Martiny and Dinorah Metz

Fields of Light, Deserts of Color: An exhibition of cyanotypes, monotypes, and paintings by Sarah Martiny and Dinorah Metz. Sarah’s cyanotypes and botanical monotypes evoke the magic of standing in a flower garden. To enhance the tone and vibrancy of her cyanotypes, she uses natural pigments from turmeric, beets, red wine, and watercolor. Sarah’s monotypes capture the spirit of a plant separate from its environment. The plants often disintegrate in the process, making each print one of a kind. Sarah is an environmental scientist who studied printmaking at the Shemer Art Center. Dinorah’s acrylic paintings capture the drama of intense light and shadow. Her process involves selecting various elements from her photographs and combining them into compositions. She shares, “Nature is at the core of my work, and I see it not just as a visual subject but as a metaphor for the cycles of rebirth and change.” Dinorah was born in El Salvador and has lived in Arizona for over 30 years.
