Celebrate the season with a mixture of international carols, traditional melodies, and winter favorites at this free afternoon concert featuring a 7-member ensemble with a 10-foot-long contrabass flute! Playing instruments that range from the traditional piccolo to the rare 10-foot-long contrabass flute, the 7-member flute choir will perform seasonal music in a variety of genres. Listeners will learn about the flute family, composers, and musical styles in this friendly, interactive concert. The flutists will pass around demonstration flutes and piccolos, allowing the audience to experience the instruments firsthand. “We mindfully disregard the classical concert tradition of keeping the audience at a distance,” says CAFE Manager Leslie Etzel. “Instead, we actively engage with our listeners. For example, rather than a printed program, we take turns standing up to introduce our music with interesting tidbits and a bit of humor. People see our faces, hear our voices, and connect with us, especially during the Q&A segment.” Since forming in 2014, CAFE has performed at venues throughout metro Phoenix, including the Desert Botanical Garden, art galleries, senior communities, libraries, Tempe History Museum, Mesa Art Center, and Arizona Broadway Theatre. Recent listeners commented, “You are one of the most enjoyable, talented group of musicians I have ever had the pleasure of hearing….I came here thinking, ‘I’ll listen to a few flutes.’ Little did I know how interesting and amazing this performance would be...I’ll never forget that 10-foot-long contrabass flute!” No tickets needed. Since 2014, they have performed over 250 concerts, including Desert Botanical Garden, Mesa Art Center, senior communities libraries, art galleries, Stardust Theatre, Tempe History Museum, Arizona Broadway Theatre, and Peoria Center for Performing Arts. With a music library of over 150 pieces, CAFE Flutes can customize their concert to fit the occasion. Themed programs include a selection of Patriotic, St. Patrick’s Day, Summer, Show Tunes, Singalong, Mother's Day, and Winter Holiday melodies. Are you looking for a fun, educational experience? "Fascinating Flutes" is a 2-person demonstration of flutes worldwide through live performance, storytelling, videos, photos, and sound clips.
