PhxArt x Lisa Sette Gallery Summer Films: Politics, People, and Society: God & Country

The art of film has long provoked reflection on the ways humans interact with each other and our world. This summer, join us for the PhxArt x Lisa Sette Gallery Summer Film Series: Political, People, and Society to discover a global view on how politics, cultural + societal beliefs, and other factors inform individual identity, community relations, and sometimes, entire nations and social structures. This series also complements special exhibition Multiple Realities: Experimental Art in the Eastern Bloc, 1960s-1980s, which explores how an entire generation of artists found novel ways to express themselves during a time when art-making was heavily monitored by governmental systems and policies. Join us Sunday, June 9 at 1 pm, for the first film in the PhxArt x Lisa Sette Gallery Summer Film series. Featuring many prominent voices of contemporary Christianity, God & Country examines the implications of Christian Nationalism, the belief that America—and its government—should be defined by and enact fundamentalist Christian ideals. This film asks the question: What happens when a faith built on love, sacrifice, and forgiveness becomes politicized, conflating power, money, and belief into hyper-nationalism? Presented in English.
