Makerspace: Special Edition – Sewing

Makers, crafters, and lovers of hands-on experiences—this one’s for you! Join Heard Museum staff and guest artists for Makerspace: Special Edition, featuring open-studio, drop-in workshops inspired by the themes, materials and artwork in Meryl McMaster: Bloodline. This month’s Makerspace focuses on sewing, facilitated by guest artist Kiara Reid (Diné and French Canadian), who will be on hand to answer your questions and offer expert guidance to help bring your project to life. After exploring the Meryl McMaster: Bloodline exhibition, bring an existing project or an idea for something new, and work alongside other makers. We’ll have a limited number of sewing machines available, along with basic supplies to get you started. This program is included with regular admission and FREE for Heard Museum Members. Artist Bio: Kiara Reid is a Diné and French Canadian artist from The Navajo Nation. Her work draws from both traditional and contemporary practices, using textiles, painting, beading, and more to express her connection to the Land, culture, and community. Through art, Kiara bridges ancestral teachings with modern life, believing creativity is a path to joy, healing, and self-expression. “As much as art is about connecting to our ancestral teachings and knowledge, it’s also about me finding my own voice and place in the world. It’s by combining both of these approaches that my artistic expression is stronger.” She shares her knowledge through workshops across Turtle Island, inspiring others to explore their creative potential.
