Tina Watts is a Phoenix, Arizona-based artist who lives in a small town on the outskirts of the city. Tina has been creating since she was a young girl, but it wasn’t until 2015 that she finally owned and accepted the title “artist.” Her favorite mediums are acrylic and watercolor, as well as creating assemblages—especially giving old and forgotten things new life. The objects she uses are often more than just found objects; they are collected and treasured things: a watch face from her brother, an old key from her father-in-law, a piece of jewelry from her grandmother. And sometimes, they’re simply objects that caught her eye and looked more like hidden treasures. Tina’s deepest artistic instinct is one of preservation. She preserves moments, beauty, words, and memories. She preserves little forgotten objects because something inside her believes they deserve another chance to mean something. Tina doesn’t create with one particular style or medium in mind. Instead, she follows what catches her attention—a color, a texture, a photograph, a found object, a memory—and sees where it leads. Whether she’s painting, layering, or building an assemblage, she’s always looking for the beauty and possibility in the things around her. Her hope is that when someone looks at her work, they might pause for a moment, see something they hadn’t noticed before, and perhaps find a little piece of their own story within it.
