Maria's recent work integrates a vital aspect of her identity: her deep connection to her Mexican roots and the rich heritage of the Aztecs and Mayas. This influence manifests in her line landscapes and abstract style, where ancient traditions are juxtaposed with contemporary themes. Most recently (Pandemic), Maria discovered her love for embroidery and has taken the responsibility of integrating this indigenous craft in to her architectural compositions. Through her art, Maria invites viewers to witness the transformative moments of her past, present, and emotional state, engaging them in the interpretation of her work. Each piece reflects the chaos, movement, and energy she observes in society, transformed into a harmonious stillness through her unique vision. Maria feels privileged to create work that honors her heritage while exploring the abstract realms of color and form. Maria Martinez holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia. She has received multiple recognitions and awards during her art career. Maria lives in Surprise, AZ with her husband, her six-year-old son and, their dog Simba.
