Joanna Proffitt is a photographer who has shown her work throughout Arizona for over a decade. She is inspired by sights and experiences from her travels, both locally and outside the state. Often drawn to the natural world and architecture, she largely creates abstracted images using techniques such as double exposures and movement. It’s important to note that the effects seen in her work are created in-camera and not through the use of editing software like Photo Shop. Her photographs draw attention to often overlooked elements such as color, pattern, texture and shape. Her process is an intentional deconstruction, one in which the subject is presented in an entirely new and unique way. She believes this approach leads to a closer examination and more in-depth appreciation while also leaving ample room for interpretation and imagination. Her goal is to offer a glimpse of the essence of her subject matter from a fresh perspective.
