Fred Carneau

Fred first began developing film, printing photographs and framing photos in high school. Later, working in a custom photo lab printing photographs and helping run the rental darkroom provided experience in printing photos for customers. The skills obtained in photography and some friends in the radio business provided an opportunity to photograph musical concerts. The work created has been used by radio stations, promoters, record companies, publications, venues and the bands themselves. There are currently two permanent exhibitions of Fred's concert photography, one in Portland Oregon at the Roseland Theater and one at the Mesa Arts Center. Working with his father from a young age at the family used equipment business provided mechanical experience that turned into part time employment for some racing teams. After working on various racing ventures, college graduation pushed him to move to Los Angeles and begin his work in providing travel services to racing fans and corporate sponsors. That lead to working for racing teams providing travel services. Working for racing teams also allowed for photographic opportunities for the clients cars and any others that were running at the event. From November 1999 to its close in April 2001 over 60 of Fred's racing photos were on permanent display on the walls of the Race Rock Restaurant in Downtown Las Vegas. The restaurant closed in April 2001. The newest photography work is from the Northern Arizona and Southern Utah deserts. The sandstone rock formations found in Northern Arizona and Southern Utah are truly unbelievable. Getting there is no easy matter as it can take hours by 4-wheel drive just to reach the trailhead, sometimes you have to walk miles to get to the rock formations. There are no trail markers, no signs, you need to know where to go to find these places. Most people think of the desert as a dry, dusty and brown place but the sandstone formations found in these areas are some of the most colorful places in the world.
