About
Saunders is an Arizona-based photographer and cinematographer whose work explores landscape, light, movement, and the relationship between the natural and built environments. Trained at Brooks Institute of Photography, he brings a foundation in professional image-making and cinematography to a fine-art practice defined by cinematic composition, atmosphere, and storytelling. His work spans dramatic landscapes, aviation, architecture, astrophotography, aerial imagery, and the natural world. Long exposures, changing weather, unusual perspectives, and the distinctive light of the American Southwest frequently shape his photographs, revealing environments in ways that can feel both familiar and otherworldly. Working both on the ground and in the air, Saunders is drawn to images that require patience, planning, and an element of unpredictability. Whether capturing aircraft tracing patterns through the night sky, a solitary structure beneath the stars, desert terrain illuminated by fleeting light, or the geometry of a landscape from above, he approaches each frame with the visual storytelling sensibility of a cinematographer. While much of his work is rooted in Arizona and the American Southwest, his photography and cinematography have taken him across the United States and beyond. His fine-art practice is ultimately about creating a sense of presence—inviting viewers not simply to see a place, but to experience the light, scale, movement, and atmosphere of a moment that may never occur in quite the same way again.
