About
Diana Chavez is a self-taught figurative artist born in the vibrant Mexico City. From a very young age, Diana was introduced to the love for art and culture by her parents, being themselves very art inclined, and would frequently take her to visit some of the Grand Mexico Museums, where she was mesmerized by the works of artists like Remedios Varo and Leonora Carrington. Although her mother would have loved to pursue the art career, she chose to dedicate her life to another passion, bakery, a lifestyle that would influence Diana’s growth amidst magical smells and flavors, such as chocolate and vanilla. She had loved drawing and painting since she was old enough to hold a pencil, Diana combined her artistic passion with the family business, using sugar plates as canvases to hand paint and sculpt cake decorations. Chocolate and sugar became her art medium for many years until she decided to go back to long-lasting pieces of art, instead of the ephemeral pieces she had been creating. Once back in the traditional media, her journey as an artist began as a self-taught exploration, where she immersed herself in the world of figurative art. At that moment, she was living in Monterrey, Mexico, a vast city surrounded by majestic mountains and beautiful parks. In this butterfly-filled city she participated in local art festivals, where, without the constraints of formal training, she had the freedom to experiment with various techniques and styles, allowing her artistic voice to emerge organically. Her artistic journey is an ongoing process of self-discovery and growth. She relishes the opportunity to challenge herself and experiment with new techniques. She recently made Phoenix her home, an energetic community which is constantly fueling her creativity and offering a vast array of inspiration and opportunities to broaden her artistic skills and vision.
