Michael Hewlett is the founder and artist behind Yatzi Studio & Gallery, where he creates original abstract paintings that explore atmosphere, emotion, and the beauty found in imperfection. After a successful career spanning more than 25 years in corporate accounting and business leadership, Hewlett embraced painting as a new creative chapter. His analytical background informs his thoughtful approach to composition, while his artistic process welcomes spontaneity, texture, and discovery. Each painting evolves through layers of acrylics, mixed media, and intuitive mark-making, resulting in work that invites viewers to find their own stories within the canvas. Hewlett’s paintings are known for their moody color palettes, dramatic contrasts, and subtle hints of whimsy. Rather than depicting a literal scene, his work creates spaces where memory, imagination, and emotion intersect. A graduate of the University of Southern California, Hewlett has lived in the Midwest, London, Los Angeles, Guam, and Phoenix, experiences that have shaped both his perspective and his creative voice. As a cancer and heart attack survivor, he brings a deep appreciation for resilience, hope, and the unexpected beauty that can emerge from life’s challenges.
