About
Raised in Arizona, Colton Berry is a freelance photographer based out of Phoenix with a focus on documentary, street, and fine art photography. His relationship to documentary photography began with a diagnosis of memory disabilities as a child, when he learned to use cameras as a crutch for capturing his own history before later recognizing their potential for storytelling and creative expression. Primarily self-taught and lacking formal training, his photography was heavily influenced by an early exposure to the cinematic language and themes of modernist art films. Today, his work centers around the use of film and analog photography to capture and explore the often fraught relationships between the landscapes of the American Southwest and its peoples, with particular regard to those hidden in its shadows.
