Since then, I have worked with John Nelson and Jon Haddock at Phoenix College where my work has received prizes and been recognized by such artists as Eric Fischl and Mark Bradford. I am a regular at the Arizona Art Guild’s Life Drawing sessions. I often work with Edna Dapo at the Phoenix Center for the Arts. I was honored to be a member of the Artery Gallery Collective where I had the opportunity to show my work on a regular basis. As a person who entered painting relatively late in life, I have worked very hard to catch up. In addition to the classes, I have visited as much great art around the world as time and money would allow—Prado, Tate, National Gallery, Louvre, Chicago Art Institute, Los Angeles Modern Art, Metropolitan Art and more. In the classic method, I painted studies of specific artists’ works—Hopper, Nutt, Dali, O’Keefe and others. But mainly, I have painted. My mentor John Dewey said that we learn “by doing”—and that’s how I taught others and taught others to teach. I never believed that I was an exception to the rule. In short, I am a former teacher, now an artist, who loves the creative process. Each painting is unique. I explore the full range of the human experience—sometimes more realism, sometimes more lyrical and fantastical. Exhibitions In addition to the Artery Gallery, I have been fortunate to have my work shown at following: 2014-16 Fischl Gallery at Phoenix College (1st, 2nd and 3rd)* 2014-16 Phoenix Art Museum (as a (Phoenix College Student Art Competition winner)* 2015-19 Glendale Fine Arts Competition* 2010-16 Mesa Art Center 2018 United Universalist Church 2019 Holland Gallery* 2019 Ice House Gallery 2019 Devonshire Senior Center 2019-Present Arizona Artist Guild * (Multiple shows) 2019 Arizona Statewide Competition in Surprise* 2019 Phoenix Center for the Arts (Best in Show)* 2019 Arizona State Fair* 2020 High Street Art 2021 First Studio 2022 Found:RE 2022 Arizona Art Alliance Statewide Exhibition Peoria Art Museum 2022 Flinn Foundation* 2022 Artlink 22nd Annual Juried Exhibition 2023 WHAM 2024 Glendale Art Show 2024 Arizona Art Alliance 2024-25 AAG Statewide Exhibition(Award Winner) Arizona Art Alliance Exhibition (2nd in Show) *Juried Affiliations Arizona Artists Guild (Juried Member) Phoenix Center for the Arts Phoenix Artlink
