Tim Schiffer

About

I grew up on a ranch in Wyoming, studied art at Yale, then taught and earned my MFA at U C Santa Barbara. I was a curator and then a museum director for many years, returning to painting about ten years ago. I love the challenge of painting from life, and also of including some of my favorite artists in my compositions. I arrange and rearrange objects in my studio and do preparatory drawings until I find the right motif. I work in transparent watercolor, using multiple layers to build up the illusion and the color harmonies.
